Yoan Gouffran scored the winner as Bordeaux beat Lyon 1-0 on Sunday evening.

Yoan Gouffran's first-half goal secured the victory for Bordeaux as they overcame Lyon 1-0 on Sunday evening.

Lyon might have opened the scoring after nine minutes when Bafetimbi Gomis advanced on goal, but his effort was met by a smart save from Cedric Carrasso.

The home side began to control possession as the half progressed, however, and Jaroslav Plasil might have done better after 15 minutes with an effort from outside the box.

Bordeaux again went close after 27 minutes with a Michael Ciani header, but his effort drifted just wide of the post.

The home side eventually took the lead after 41 minutes when Gouffran headed home a corner to send Bordeaux into a first half lead.

Lyon went close to levelling the match after 62 minutes when Gomis advanced on goal, but his effort was blocked by the home side's defence.

The away side's best chance of the afternoon fell to Jimmy Briand after 67 minutes, but Carrasso produced a fine save in the Bordeaux goal.

Lyon pushed for the equaliser in the latter stages, but could not break down a stern Bordeaux defence who held on for all three points.
