Mohamed Salah's record vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur,Sports Mole takes a closer look at Mohamed Salah's record against the Lilywhites.

Liverpool will once again aim to rise to the top of the Premier League table when Tottenham Hotspur make the journey to Anfield on Saturday night.

Fresh from booking their spot in the Champions League final after seeing off Villarreal, Liverpool's most recent top-flight battle saw them run out 1-0 winners over Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp's side can temporarily go two points clear of Manchester City with victory on Saturday, and hotshot Mohamed Salah is certainly partial to a goal or two against the Lilywhites.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Salah's record against Tottenham ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash.

Even before making a name for himself at Liverpool or enjoying fleeting appearances at Chelsea, Salah announced himself to the Tottenham crowd during his time at Basel, scoring against the North London club in the quarter-finals of the 2012-13 Europa League.

The Egypt international would repeat the trick for Fiorentina against Tottenham in the same competition two years later, helping his side to a 3-1 aggregate win in the last-32 with his side's second goal in a 2-0 second-leg win.

Liverpool failed to win either of their clashes with Spurs in the 2017-18 Premier League season, but Salah still managed to bag his side's consolation effort in a 4-1 Wembley defeat before a sumptuous brace in a 2-2 Anfield draw later in the season.

Salah went through the 2018-19 season without registering a single goal or assist in Liverpool's two victories over Spurs, but he returned to his scoring ways with the opening penalty in that year's Champions League final before walking up to the podium.

Liverpool's title-winning 2019-20 season also saw Salah bag the winning penalty in a 2-1 Anfield success in October 2019, while he also set up Roberto Firmino's winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later that season.

The 29-year-old's most recent goal against Tottenham came back in December 2020 as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners on their own turf, and he has since failed to contribute in his last two meetings with the North London club.

However, a record of eight strikes from 15 appearances against Tottenham is nothing to be sniffed at, and Salah has ended up on the winning side in six of his last seven meetings with Spurs.

Furthermore, only against Watford, Manchester United and West Ham United (nine each) has Salah scored more against a single opponent in his career, and four of his five Premier League strikes against Tottenham have come at the Anfield fortress, where another would certainly not go amiss this weekend.
