Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim allegedly wants the Red Devils to build a new scouting team in Portugal in a bid to unearth the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly looking for the Red Devils to build a new scouting team in Portugal in a bid to unearth the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

Amorim allegedly believes that Man United have fallen behind when it comes to scouting the best talent in Portugal and wants the system to be revamped in a bid to discover the next superstars from the country.

According to The Mirror, Amorim is concerned that the 20-time English champions are currently missing out on Portugal's top talent, while the 39-year-old's knowledge in that area will also place Man United in a strong position when it comes to bringing in highly-rated youngsters.

Man United famously signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, and the forward went on to score 118 goals in 292 appearances for the Red Devils during his first spell at the club.

Nani, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have also been brought to Old Trafford from Portugal, but the likes of Joao Neves - now of Paris Saint-Germain - moved elsewhere despite being linked with the Red Devils.

Amorim 'wants to improve scouting system in Portugal'

Amorim has been linked with a number of Sporting players since his departure from the Green and Whites, with Geovany Quenda believed to be one of his top targets.

The 17-year-old has scored twice and registered three assists in 25 appearances for Sporting in what is a breakthrough 2024-25 campaign for the wing-back.

Quenda is regarded as one of the best young talents in Portuguese football, and it is believed that he is on the radar of a number of the biggest clubs in world football.

The youngster came through the Sporting youth system as an attacker, but he was developed into a right-sided wing-back by Amorim and could be asked to feature in that role by Amorim at Old Trafford.

Leon, Nypan 'heading for Old Trafford'

Man United's transfer policy has changed under new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with the club now targeting the best young talent in world football.

The Red Devils have allegedly already secured a deal for Diego Leon, with the 17-year-old set to arrive from Cerro Porteno at the start of next summer's transfer window.

Meanwhile, Rosenborg's Sverre Nypan is allegedly heading for Old Trafford; the 17-year-old scored eight goals and registered 10 assists in 33 appearances for his Norwegian club during the recent campaign.

Nypan has a contract with Rosenborg until December 2026, but he is likely to be on the move next year, potentially as early as January.

The attacking midfielder's release clause is £83m, but it is understood that Man United are looking to do a deal in the region of £10m, which could rise to £20m through various add-ons.
