Pep Guardiola was sent to the stands at half time in Manchester City's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool for protesting against a disallowed goal.

The Man City manager approached referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz just after the half-time whistle at the Etihad Stadium to make his feelings heard about Leroy Sane's 41st-minute effort being ruled out for offside.

Guardiola appeared to be shouting angrily at Mateu Lahoz and gesturing wildly before the official decided to send his fellow Spaniard to the stands.

Mateu Lahoz also issued five yellow cards in the first half - two to City's Ederson and Bernardo Silva and three to Liverpool's Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino.

Man City, who came into Tuesday night's second-leg encounter trailing 3-0 from the first leg, had dominated the first half and took a second-minute lead through Gabriel Jesus.
