Gabriel Jesus's record vs. Everton

Ahead of Manchester City's Premier League clash with Everton on Sunday, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Gabriel Jesus's record against the Toffees.

Gabriel Jesus will be in contention to start for Manchester City when they welcome Everton to the Etihad Stadium for their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

The 24-year-old has been a consistent name on Pep Guardiola's team sheet so far this season, featuring in 10 of their 11 Premier League fixtures.

Jesus has failed to score in each of his last four matches in the English top flight, but he has enjoyed plenty of success in front of goal against the Toffees in recent years.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Jesus's record against Everton.

Since joining Man City from Palmeiras in January 2017, Jesus has scored more goals against Everton than he has against any other opponent in his career.

The 24-year-old has found the net eight times in eight Premier League appearances against the Toffees, with the Brazilian averaging a goal every 69 minutes.

His first ever encounter against Everton was at the Etihad Stadium in August 2017, however the forward was unable to get his name on the scoresheet on that occasion and was substituted at half time.

Since then, Jesus has provided at least one goal contribution in each of his next seven matches against the Merseyside outfit, winning each game in the process.

A bullet header from close range was how the Brazilian scored his first goal against Everton in a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park in 2018, a crucial win for the Citizens on their way to clinching their first league title under Guardiola.

In the following two campaigns, Jesus scored the opening two goals in successive home matches to help City secure 3-1 and 2-1 victories in December 2018 and January 2020 respectively. The forward also netted in consecutive away games during this period.

Last season, Jesus failed to score for just the second time against Everton when City won 3-1 at Goodison Park in February 2017, but he did provide an important assist in that game for Bernardo Silva, who netted City's third and final goal in the 77th minute to seal all three points.

City's most recent clash with the Toffees was on the final day of last season, with Jesus scoring the second goal in a 5-0 thrashing at the Etihad Stadium – a memorable game for Jesus's teammate and club legend Sergio Aguero, who scored a brace as a substitute in his final Premier League game.

This campaign, Jesus has expressed his desire to play as a winger, which has seen him adopt a new creative role in Guardiola's side, providing five assists in 10 Premier League games. Opportunities in and around the six-yard box may now be limited for the Brazilian, but he is sure to still have an eye for a goal this weekend and will be seeking to net his fourth successive home strike against Everton.
