Claudio Ranieri: 'Manchester United's Anthony Martial can smell a goal'

Claudio Ranieri says that Manchester United's £36m signing Anthony Martial can "smell a goal".

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has claimed that Manchester United's new signing Anthony Martial has the ability to "switch on" when he can "smell a goal".

The 19-year-old, who signed for the Red Devils from Monaco for £36m on the final day of the transfer window, has scored three goals in his last two Premier League matches.

Ranieri was in charge of Monaco when the youngster arrived at the French club for just £3.5m from Lyon in 2013.

"He has that fantastic ability when he can smell a goal and then switches on at just the right moment - that is Anthony," The Mirror quotes Ranieri as saying. "It's important for him to score as he cost a lot of money and the people expect goals from him.

"Every time he touched the ball, something special happened. Maybe he was not involved in the game then suddenly, whoosh, he'd come to life."

Martial made his senior debut in 2012 at Lyon.
