Manchester United are plotting to swoop for either Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane or Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland in the summer of 2022, according to a report.
The Red Devils were initially tipped to sign a new target man ahead of the imminent 2021-22 season, but Edinson Cavani's one-year extension has allowed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to prioritise other areas.
Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane are set to step foot onto the Old Trafford turf for the new campaign, while a new midfielder could also be on the agenda if Paris Saint-Germain-linked Paul Pogba departs.
United are expected to move for a striker next summer if Cavani opts against extending his stay further, and ESPN reports that Kane or Haaland will be the Red Devils' top targets should they both be on the market.
Chelsea are understood to have approached BVB over a player-plus-cash deal for Haaland earlier this month, but the Blues could be priced out of a move for the £149m-rated Norwegian, whose £68m release clause activates in 2022.
Kane, meanwhile, is thought to be the subject of interest from Manchester City, but Daniel Levy remains reluctant to sell the England captain, despite his apparent desire to leave.
