Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is adamant that his side remain confident of survival despite an indifferent run of Premier League form.

Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has insisted that his side remain confident in their ability to stay clear of relegation this season.

Alan Pardew's side sit six points above the drop zone with just four games left to play.

Despite an indifferent run of Premier League form the French international believes that the Toon possess enough quality to stave off any lingering threats of a relegation battle.

The former Montpellier centre-back told Sky Sports News: "The most important thing is to remain aware of the situation in which we find ourselves in.

"It's also vital we remain really together. Whenever we go out onto the pitch, we have to know we're involved in a battle and make sure we give our all for 90, even 95 minutes, every match.

"I'm not worried. We have got some fantastic players and haven't lost our confidence. Even if we are up against one of the top five teams in the league, we'd still be confident of getting a result."

The Magpies continue their quest to secure survival this evening when Liverpool visit St James' Park.
