Scottish Premiership champions Rangers will join Celtic for the Sydney Super Cup at the end of November held in Australia.

Scottish Premiership champions Rangers will join Celtic for the Sydney Super Cup at the end of November held in Australia.

The tournament is scheduled to take place next season during a five-week break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and will also involve Australian teams Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Celtic announced on Tuesday that they would be competing in the tournament, to the delight of Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou, and Rangers have now followed suit by confirming they will also compete Down Under.

Commenting on the news, Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to take Rangers to Sydney next November.

"I know from my previous spell at the club as a player that we have supporters based all around the world, with Australia a particular hotbed for Rangers fans.

"This is a terrific opportunity for us to go and see them in person as well as to get some valuable game time for the players who won't be at the World Cup against a good challenge in Western Sydney Wanderers and also in the Old Firm match."

Rangers will begin the tournament on November 16 with a fixture against Western Sydney Wanderers before facing Celtic four days later, which will be the first ever Old Firm derby against the Hoops to take place outside of Glasgow.
