Given Real Madrid's status as one of the biggest clubs in world football, it is not too surprising that Los Blancos have more success than Real Sociedad across the 181 meetings between the two sides.

With that said, La Real have managed to avoid defeat in 80 of their 181 encounters, having recorded 38 victories and 42 draws against Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have netted 370 goals in this fixture, including 15 goals apiece from Cristiano Ronaldo and Santillana as the joint-leading scorers in this fixture.

Meanwhile, the Basque side have netted 221 goals against Real Madrid, including 10 from forward Darko Kovacevic, who enjoyed two spells with Real Sociedad in his career.

Real Madrid have proven to be a tough team to beat in recent league meetings, having lost just one of their previous 11 La Liga games against La Real (D3, L7).

In fact, Carlo Ancelotti's side have won each of their previous three top-flight encounters, including a 2-0 win in September's away fixture, which came courtesy of goals from Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe.

That result represented Real Madrid's fourth win in six league visits to the Reale Arena, while they have avoided defeat in each of their previous five home La Liga meetings since losing 2-0 in January 2019.

Meanwhile, in the Copa del Rey, Real Sociedad have prevailed in two of their previous three completed ties, including in 1987-88 when they cruised to a 5-0 aggregate victory.

They were unable to replicate that success in their next cup meeting in 1992-1993, with a 4-1 win in the second leg proving to be in vain following a 4-0 loss in the away leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Imanol Alguacil's charges got the better of Los Blancos in the 2019-20 quarter-finals, pulling off a 4-3 away victory on their way to lifting the trophy for the third time in their history.

However, they are currently at risk of falling short in a cup tie with Real Madrid after they lost 1-0 in the first leg of their semi-final clash on February 26.
