Russia manager Fabio Capello has moved closer to signing a contract extension with the Russian Football Union.
The 67-year-old Italian, who took charge of the team in July 2012, has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur following the departure of Andre Villas-Boas.
However, he is now expected to pen new terms in the New Year after recently guiding Russia to the 2014 World Cup.
"The last touches to Capello's contract have been made and now the Russian Football Union should set a date for the signing and I think that this should happen after the New Year holidays," Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
"Nothing can stop it, all the questions have been agreed."
Capello has managed AC Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid and England during an illustrious coaching career.
