Aston Villa will be bidding to end a 13-game streak when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on New Year's Day.

Aston Villa will be hoping to end a 13-match streak when they square off against Tottenham Hotspur on New Year's Day.

Villa head into the game sitting in 12th position in the Premier League table having accumulated 18 points from 15 matches.

In the three games under Unai Emery, Villa have defeated Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion before losing to Liverpool on Boxing Day.

Having played the teams sitting in fifth, sixth and seventh in his opening triple-header, Emery and his Villa side now face fourth-placed Spurs.

Although Villa defeated Brighton at the Amex Stadium in their most recent away encounter in the top flight, it marked their first win on the road in the league this campaign.

That success has theoretically come at the right time as Villa bid to end a negative streak in London which has lasted for more than two years.

Villa have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 13 fixtures in the capital, the last shutout coming at Arsenal in a 3-0 victory in November 2020.

Furthermore, Villa have suffered five consecutive defeats in London, conceding at least twice in each of those matches.

However, Villa did prevail against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as recently as May 2021 courtesy of a Sergio Reguilon own goal and an Ollie Watkins strike.

Villa will also be encouraged by their upcoming opponents having conceded at least twice in each of their most recent six Premier League fixtures.

Spurs have conceded the first goal in all of those games, leaving them bidding to avoid ending a 12-year streak since they last suffered such a feat.
