Valencia held by Real Sociedad

Valencia lose ground on leaders Barcelona with a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Valencia's winning run in La Liga came to an end on Sunday evening as they played out a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad.

Diego Alves was forced into action early on to prevent Valencia from falling behind, with Carlos Vela seeing the shot-stopper push his powerful strike over the crossbar after the Mexican had beaten two defenders.

Sociedad's bright start was forgotten in the 15th minute as Valencia took the lead through Carles Gil, who calmly slotted home the opener after latching onto a clever pass from Paco Alcacer.

However, the hosts would level the scores before the break in spectacular fashion when Sergio Canales fired home an equaliser off the post from 25 yards out.

Valencia were on the back foot early in the second half as Sociedad dominated possession, but chances proved to be difficult to come by for both sides.

Imanol Agirretxe came closest to finding the winner on the hour mark as he connected with a long ball forward by heading just wide of the target, and there would not be many more opportunities as the points were shared.
