The hosts took the lead in the 29th minute when Febian Brandy pounced to net his fourth goal of the campaign.

Will Griggs doubled their advantage before half time as he converted the rebound after Brandy's initial effort was saved.

Walsall have moved up to 14th place in the table, while Portsmouth remain in 21st place.
