Andrey Arshavin silent on retirement rumours

Zenit St Petersburg attacker Andrey Arshavin refuses to comment on speculation that he will retire from football.

Former Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin has refused to comment on his Zenit St Petersburg future amid rumours that he will retire.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at the end of this month, with Zenit coach Andre Villas-Boas previously stating that an extension was unlikely to be tabled.

Consequently, speculation has mounted that the ex-Russia international will hang up his boots - an idea that the attacker did little to dispel in an interview with R-Sport.

He said: "Later I'll make a statement. For now I won't say anything."

Arshavin, who started only four games last term as Zenit won the Russian Premier League, left the Gunners in 2013 after an overall indifferent spell with the club.

He has 75 caps for Russia and caught the eye with a number of dazzling performances during Euro 2008, which helped him secure his Arsenal move in the following January.

The diminutive playmaker famously netted four goals for the North Londoners during a 4-4 draw at Liverpool in 2009.
