Arsenal keeper Petr Cech: 'We proved we can handle the pressure'

Arsenal keeper Petr Cech believes that his side have proven that they can handle the pressure of their chase for silverware this season following their win over Olympiacos.

Petr Cech has said that Arsenal have proven that they can play under pressure following their 3-0 win over Olympiacos in the Champions League.

The Gunners needed to beat the Greek side by two goals to advance to the knockout stage of the competition, and were able to progress as a hat-trick from Olivier Giroud guided Arsene Wenger's men to victory at Karaiskakis Stadium.

Cech believes that the manner of the win will stand the club in good stead for the rest of the season in their hunt for silverware.

"We are ready to play under pressure," he told the club's official website. "This is something that is really nice to know because we are playing for the title and that will bring the pressure on. Then when you go further in the cup competitions the playoff rounds come up so you will definitely play under pressure.

"If you want to progress and go as far as possible then you have to keep winning games. It might be that it doesn't go well for you in one of those games and you have to chase it, so it's good to know that we've been in that situation before and we can actually do it, regardless of the circumstances.

"Hopefully it will help us to progress as a team for the next phase of the league and also in the Champions League. There's always pressure in games where the circumstances are difficult, especially when you play away from home and need to get the result. Once you've experienced that then it gives everybody confidence."

Arsenal play Aston Villa in their next Premier League match.
