Diego Simeone 'to snub Arsenal for Inter Milan'

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone will pick a move to Inter Milan ahead of the top job at Arsenal, according to his son.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone will choose Inter Milan over Arsenal when he calls time on his stint with the La Liga giants, according to his son.

The 46-year-old is about to celebrate five years as boss at the Vicente Calderon, during which time he has led the club to the La Liga title, the Europa League trophy, a Copa del Rey and two Champions League finals.

Simeone's impressive stint has resulted in speculation that he will one day succeed Arsene Wenger in North London, but according to Giovanni Simeone, his father will instead opt to return to the side where he spent two seasons as a player.

"Sooner or later will arrive the moment when Dad goes to Inter and I hope that this happens," the 21-year-old, who plays up front for Genoa, told Corriere dello Sport.

"Now he's happy with Atletico and I see him as content, but if in the future he receives a call from Inter, why not? I would like this."

Asked about his son's comments at a press conference on Tuesday, Simeone confirmed that he would return to San Siro one day.

"It is normal that my son, my father, my sister, my wife would say that I will train Inter in the future, because they know someday I will lead Inter," he said. "I have nothing to say about my future. It is abundantly clear."

Simeone recently revealed that his Atletico contract had been shortened by two years and is now due to expire at the end of the 2017-18 season.
