Arsene Wenger: 'Jack Wilshere very down after injury blow'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Jack Wilshere is "very down" after being struck with a six-week injury layoff.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested that midfielder Jack Wilshere is feeling "very down" after suffering an injury blow.

The 22-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six weeks after suffering a hairline fracture in his left foot.

The midfielder picked up the injury while playing in England's friendly against Denmark, in which the Three Lions turned out winners in a 1-0 victory at Wembley.

Reports emerged claiming that the French boss was furious with Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, who was part of the challenge that caused Wilshere's injury, but Wenger believes that it was not intentional.

"I believe first of all that it was accidental and he will be out for six weeks," the London Evening Standard quotes Wenger as saying in Friday's press conference. "It is a blow for him and for us.

"You can only be very down, especially in the first few days. He has gone away to think about something else."

The Gunners are currently third in the Premier League table, four points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
