Jack Wilshere prefers forward role

Arsenal star Jack Wilshere reveals that he prefers being deployed as an attacking midfielder rather than in the holding role that he recently played for England.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that he prefers playing as an attacking midfielder rather than the holding role that he performed on England duty.

The Three Lions international was used at the base of the midfield by manager Roy Hodgson as they beat Switzerland 2-0 last Monday.

However, Wilshere was selected further forward for the Gunners against Manchester City on Saturday, and scored as they drew 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

The Mirror quotes Wilshere as saying: "Naturally, I want to go forward more.

"You saw with England that sometimes I lost a bit of concentration when I do go forward. But in our formation it's nice to play forward and in the England one it's different. I'm happy to play either.

"In the formation we play [at Arsenal], I should be scoring more goals. We play with one holding and two going forward and I'm one who gets forward. Hopefully that will be one of many."

Arsene Wenger's side travel to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.
