Team News: Jack Wilshere on bench, Theo Walcott absent as Arsenal face Southampton

Jack Wilshere is on the Arsenal bench and Theo Walcott fails to make the matchday squad for Sunday's Premier League meeting with Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

Jack Wilshere has been named on the Arsenal bench for Sunday's Premier League meeting with Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

The 25-year-old scored his first club goal in two and a half years in Thursday's 6-0 win over BATE Borisov but is not risked from the start on the south coast.

Theo Walcott also netted in the midweek Europa League victory but was substituted with a tight calf and does not make the matchday squad against his former club.

Arsene Wenger made 11 changes against BATE and has reinstated his big guns for the Saints game as Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette all start for the Gunners.

Shkodran Mustafi, however, was forced off early on in last weekend's 3-1 defeat to Manchester United and has been ruled out due to a thigh problem.

Mauricio Pellegrino, meanwhile, has made four changes from the Saints side that drew 1-1 at Bournemouth, switching to three at the back.

Maya Yoshida, Jack Stephens, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Nathan Redmond are drafted in, with Jeremy Pied, Wesley Hoedt, Steven Davis and Sofiane Boufal all dropping to the bench.

Southampton: Forster; Van Dijk, Stephens, Yoshida; Bertrand, Hojbjerg, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Tadic; Redmond, Austin
Subs: McCarthy, Hoedt, Davis, Lemina, Boufal, Gabbiadini, Pied

Arsenal: Cech; Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal; Bellerin, Ramsey, Xhaka, Kolasinac; Ozil, Sanchez; Lacazette
Subs: Ospina, Maitland-Niles, Coquelin, Wilshere, Iwobi, Welbeck, Giroud
