Half-Time Report: Newcastle United, Aston Villa goalless at the break

Newcastle United and Aston Villa play out goalless first half at St James' Park in the Premier League.

Aston Villa are holding Newcastle United to a goalless draw at half time at St James' Park in the Premier League this afternoon.

Andreas Weimann came close to connecting from a low cross, but the Austrian could not stretch enough to tap into the empty net on 16 minutes.

The visitors had a chance through Leandro Bacuna's free kick, which needed two attempts from keeper Tim Krul to be kept out.

Minutes earlier Krul had to be alert to deny Gabriel Agbonlahor when the striker hit a decent left-footed effort at the Newcastle goal.

Papiss Cisse wasted the best chance of the half right at the death when he side-footed an effort well over the bar from outside the six-yard box.
