Roberto Di Matteo angry over Aston Villa loss

Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo criticises his side's "organisation" after they slump to a 3-1 loss at Bristol City.

Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has hit out at his side after they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Bristol City on Saturday.

The Villans took the lead inside the first five minutes through Jack Grealish, but City struck back three times in the space of 22 second-half minutes to condemn Villa to their second away defeat of the campaign.

"We need to ride the moments where the opposition is on top because in every game there will be moments like that," Di Matteo told reporters afterwards. "It's normal. Every team has quality and we need to be able to withstand that and not panic and just keep out head.

"We lost our organisation a little bit and we weren't a team. We became a bit like 11 players on the pitch rather than a team.

"They had one shot on goal until then but we lost our shape. With that, mistakes creep in and we give away unnecessary free-kicks and space to the opposition that we didn't give in the first 60 minutes. It's about keeping the organisation for 90 minutes but we didn't do that."

Villa are facing a fine of at least £25,000 after seven of their players were booked in the final half-hour of the game.
