Rio Ferdinand: 'Fernando Torres let his team down'

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand blasts Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres following his red card against Barcelona in Tuesday's Champions League clash.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has branded Fernando Torres 'an embarrassment' after the Spaniard picked up a red card in Atletico Madrid's 2-1 defeat at Barcelona in the Champions League.

Torres sent Atletico into a 25th-minute lead in the quarter-final first leg, but picked up two first-half bookings to leave his team with ten men for the entirety of the second period.

Ferdinand has claimed that Torres will be 'destroyed in the dressing room' after his sending-off helped Barcelona turn the tie around ahead of the second leg in Madrid next week.

"Torres will be embarrassed. He has let his team down," Ferdinand told BT Sport. "As a manager, you would destroy him in the dressing room."

Luis Suarez scored two second-half goals as European Cup holders Barcelona avoided a second straight home defeat.
