Sporting Gijon and Atletico Madrid shared two goals and the spoils at El Molinon this evening.
Both sides found goalscoring chances hard to come by in the early exchanges, with the game becoming a midfield battle.
However, visiting Atletico opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Gijon's vice-captain Roberto Canella put through his own goal.
Gijon drew themselves level before the break though as Sebastian Eguren finished off a passing move with a low finish.
Atletico created the better of the chances to win the match after the break, but they were unable to find a route past Gijon goalkeeper Juan Pablo.
