Ronald Koeman: 'I want to keep Toby Alderweireld'

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman wants to sign on-loan Atletico Madrid centre-back Toby Alderweireld on a permanent deal.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that he wants Toby Alderweireld to sign a permanent contract with the club.

The Belgian is currently on a season-long loan at St Mary's from Atletico Madrid.

The centre-back has been one of the stars for the Saints in the first half of the campaign and Koeman has made no secret of his desire to sign the defender on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

"The situation is very clear. I spoke to Toby and I'd like him to stay, but it's up to the player," Koeman told reporters.

It is believed that Atletico will sanction a move if the price is right, but Alderweireld is said to have a number of other offers.
