Melbourne Victory's Ange Postecoglou will become Australia's new manager after an agreement was reportedly reached to terminate his contract with his club.

Melbourne Victory's Ange Postecoglou will become manager of the Australian national side after an agreement was reportedly reached to terminate his contract with his club.

Central Coast Mariners coach Graham Arnold and Western Sydney Wanderers manager Tony Popovic were said to be in contention for the post, but it is now Postecoglou's for the taking, according to ABC.

Postecoglou should be the man in charge when Australia go to their third straight World Cup in Brazil next year.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was encouraged to take the job by Mark Bosnich, but the 71-year-old today insisted that he won't be coming out of retirement.
