Luis Enrique names youthful squad for Copa del Rey opener

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique leaves the likes of Luis Suarez and Neymar out of his travelling squad for Wednesday's Copa del Rey opener against Villanovense.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has named a youthful squad for Wednesday's Copa del Rey clash against Segunda B outfit Villanovense.

The Catalan outfit have entered the cup competition at an earlier stage than their fellow La Liga teams due to their involvement in the Club World Cup in December.

The likes of Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Neymar and Luis Suarez have all been left out of the travelling squad, while Andres Iniesta remains out of action.

Midfielders Sergi Samper and Gerard Gumbau, who have been on the fringes of the first-team squad this season, are included, in addition to more familiar faces in the shape of Dani Alves, Jordi Alba and Ivan Rakitic.

Sandro Ramirez and Munir El Haddadi, who have rotated alongside Suarez and Neymar in Lionel Messi's absence, are also expected to play a part.

Full squad

Goalkeepers: Ter Stegen, Masip

Defenders: Alves, Douglas, Bartra, Vermaelen, Mathieu, Alba, Adriano

Midfielders: Rakitic, Samper, Gumbau, Kaptoum, Aitor

Forwards: Sandro, Munir
