Barcelona's Jeremy Mathieu reveals Lionel Messi, Luis Enrique had "friction"

Jeremy Mathieu reveals that Lionel Messi and Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique recently had a training ground bust-up, but the issues have since been resolved.

Barcelona's Jeremy Mathieu has revealed that Lionel Messi and head coach Luis Enrique did have a training ground bust-up recently.

Rumours have surrounded Camp Nou claiming that the club's star player and their coach have had a falling-out.

The speculation has sparked suggestions that Messi may consider leaving the Spanish club where he started his career.

"A few truths were said in order to improve the situation," Inside Spanish Football quotes Mathieu as saying. "There was some friction between Leo and the manager. They are things that happen in every team during parts of the season. The good thing is that the manager knew these things and has been able to return everything to normal.

"It was in training at the start of the month. Just after we had returned from the break. Suddenly, because of a foul that wasn't given by the manager, Messi lost it a little bit and there was a bit of friction then between them. They said what they had to say. Luis Enrique spoke to Leo straight afterwards and sorted everything out. As I said, these things happen in every club but because of the publicity at Barcelona, it's all scrutinised."

Barcelona are currently one point behind leaders Real Madrid in the La Liga table.
