Franz Beckenbauer: 'Robert Lewandowski better than Mario Mandzukic'

Franz Beckenbauer believes that Robert Lewandowski will be "an upgrade" on Mario Mandzukic at Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer believes that Robert Lewandowski is a better striker than Mario Mandzukic.

The Poland international forward will be out of contract at Borussia Dortmund at the end of the summer and Beckenbauer is open to the 25-year-old joining the Bavarian giants.

"Regardless of how good Mandzukic is, Lewandowski will still be an upgrade," Sport Bild quotes Beckenbauer as saying.

"He is perhaps even stronger on the ball and his movement is even better. It would be great if he were to play for Bayern soon."

Mandzukic joined Bayern from Wolfsburg in 2012.
