Clayton Donaldson: 'Jamaica call-up won't affect Birmingham City commitments'

Birmingham City striker Clayton Donaldson says that choosing to represent Jamaica was an "easy decision", despite potentially putting a strain on his club commitments.

Clayton Donaldson has assured Birmingham City supporters that his international exploits will not affect his Birmingham City commitments.

The 31-year-old has been called-up to the Jamaica squad for the first time ahead of games against Panama and Haiti.

Despite the prospect of jet-setting some 4,500 miles to represent the country of his parents' birth on a more regular basis, Donaldson is content with the additional workload coming his way.

"It was an easy decision for to make," the Birmingham Mail quotes him as saying. "I looked at the demands of the Championship and looked at our players who are internationals - [Jonathan] Spector, [David] Cotterill, [Jacques] Maghoma - they still come back on the Wednesday, have a day off and are back training Friday and playing on Saturday.

"I looked at all those aspects, it's not like it's every week. The next one after this one is March. I am sure I can get my rest in between times. I would love to be at the 2018 World Cup, I will keep trying to play as long as possible and if I can make that then great."

Donaldson has five goals in 17 games for Birmingham so far this season, coming on the back of a campaign which saw him score 16 times in all competitions.
