Gary Rowett: 'I didn't expect Birmingham City to play so well'

Gary Rowett praises his Birmingham City team after they beat Fulham 5-2 in the Championship on Saturday.

Gary Rowett has praised his Birmingham City team after beating Fulham 5-2 in the Championship.

The Blues ended their three-game run without a win with five different players getting on the scoresheet.

"I did ask them for a little bit more attacking quality today, and I felt we have been a bit wasteful in the final third, and not being ruthless enough," Rowett told BBC Sport.

"I didn't quite expect such a good performance today. We got into some brilliant positions, in the way we broke and kept our shape.

"Jon Toral was the best player on the pitch, in terms of his composure and his vision. We know what he's got - he's only 20 years old and starting games for the first time."

The result sees Birmingham stay in sixth in the Championship table.
