Mark Warburton: 'Brentford are still in the tie'

Brentford manager Mark Warburton insists that his side can create chances when they go to the Riverside in the second leg of their playoff against Middlesbrough.

Mark Warburton has insisted that Brentford are still in contention in their Championship playoff tie against Middlesbrough despite losing the home leg this evening.

An injury-time strike from Fernando Amorebieta handed Aitor Karanka's side a 2-1 win at Griffin Park, giving them the advantage heading into the second leg at the Riverside next week.

The Bees manager told Sky Sports News: "It was a better second half and we did enough to think we can go there and put on a show.

"Middlesbrough stifled us a bit in the first half and the second half was too open if I'm honest, but we recognise we'll create chances up there.

"We must defend better from corners, but we created chances and our job now is to go there and win the game, simple as that. We're absolutely still in the game, it's 2-1 at half time."

Despite leading the team to a place in the playoffs in their first season in the Championship, Warburton will leave the club at the end of the season, citing differences of opinion with the owners.
