Halifax Town lose unbeaten record against Bristol Rovers

Halifax Town lose their lead at the top of the Conference Premier table after suffering a late 2-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers.

A last-minute goal from Bristol Rovers attacker Ellis Harrison has earned his a 2-1 win over in-form Halifax Town

It looked as though a point would keep Halifax at the top of the table, but Harrison's cool finish ensured that the home side left the game at the Memorial Stadium with all three points.

Both teams started slowly, with a free kick from Town's Paul Marshall the closest that either side came to an early goal.

However, it was the home side who took the lead on 27 minutes when Jamie White did well down the right before crossing for Adam Cunnington to nod home from close range.

That goal saw the Shaymen spring into life, with Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall being forced into important saves twice in the space of three minutes to keep out Marshall and Scott Boden.

After Halifax had started the second half as the better side, it was Rovers who created the next clear opening through White, but failed to extend his side's lead and the visitors responded by finding an equaliser.

It was an impressive individual effort from Boden, who managed to take the ball past three players before directing his shot past Mildenhall in the Bristol goal.

Rovers mounted a response through Lee Mansell, who set up Cunnington to head wide when well placed, but the home side and Harrison stole all three points in the final minute to end their opponent's unbeaten start to the Conference Premier season.
