New boss Shaun Derry "looking up" with Cambridge United

Shaun Derry says that he is planning a promotion push with Cambridge United, rather than a fight against relegation.

New Cambridge United manager Shaun Derry has insisted that he will be "looking up" rather than down between now and the end of the season.

The former Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace midfielder has replaced Richard Money, who lost his job at the Abbey Stadium last week.

He has inherited a side that currently sit 18th in League Two, but nevertheless they find themselves only six points off a place in the playoffs.

"This is such an uncompromising league. There are some big, big teams here. I actually feel it's a real difficult league to get out of," the 37-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"We know we are in a group of seven or eight other teams that have probably got the same aspirations [as us]. We're definitely looking up, that's for sure."

Derry's first game in charge of the U's will be against Oxford United on Saturday afternoon.
