Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Coalville Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's FA Cup clash between Charlton Athletic and Coalville Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Charlton Athletic commence their FA Cup campaign against Coalville Town on Saturday at The Valley.

The hosts come into this clash fresh off the back of two thrilling encounters against Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion's Under-21s, while the visitors have won three of their last four outings in all competitions.

Charlton will just about be catching their breath from their previous two matches which involved plenty of injury-time drama.

Last time out in the league, the Addicks shared the spoils with Ipswich in an epic 4-4 draw which saw Charlton score twice in stoppage time to salvage a point.

The game looked to be heading towards a draw at 2-2, entering time added on, after George Edmundson and Tyreece John-Jules had put Town two up, only for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Albie Morgan to claw Charlton level.

Freddie Ladapo looked to have won it for Ipswich when he drove home from outside the box and put the Tractor Boys 3-2 up, before Sam Morsy surely made the points safe with a strike from the edge of the area.

However, there was another twist in the tale as Terrell Thomas tapped home to cut the deficit to just one, before the unthinkable happened as George Dobson's looping header evaded Christian Walton and nestled in the Town goal to send The Valley into a frenzy.

Ben Garner's side followed that result up with a dramatic win in the Football League Trophy over Brighton & Hove Albion's Under-21s, which saw Jack Payne score an injury-time winner to send them through to the knockout stages of the competition.

The Addicks will fancy their chances here against non-league opposition on their own patch. They also faced non-league opposition in the competition last season, defeating Havant & Waterlooville 4-0 in the first round and then prevailing 2-0 at Gateshead.

Meanwhile, the magic of the FA Cup has delivered a dream tie for Coalville Town, who ply their trade in the Southern Central Premier League and currently sit fifth in the table.

The Ravens were 3-1 winners at Dunston UTS on Saturday as they progressed in the FA Trophy with Ashley Chambers scoring twice.

The striker was also on target in their 3-2 win over Notts County in their FA Cup fourth qualifying round match, which set up the trip to Charlton, and he has netted 15 times since joining from Buxton at the start of the campaign.

Their FA Cup run up until this point has seen Coalville dispatch Shepshed Dynamo, Macclesfield FC and AFC Sudbury before completing the upset over Notts County.

Now, they get to test themselves against a League One giant, and potentially defy the odds once again.

Team News

The hosts are still determining the full extent of the injuries suffered by defensive duo Mandela Egbo and Eoghan O'Connell, both of whom were withdrawn in the first half of last Saturday's clash against Ipswich Town.

Diallang Jaiyesimi and Miles Leaburn remain sidelined for Charlton with ankle injuries.

Meanwhile, Ashley Chambers looks poised to lead the line for the visitors having scored 15 goals so far this season.

Joe Doyle-Charles, Tim Berridge, Jake Eggleton and Steve Towers all missed the FA Trophy clash with Dunston last weekend due to injuries, so George Wilson and Tendai Chitiza could come into the starting XI once again here.

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
Wollacott; Clare, Lavelle, Thomas, Sessegnon; Rak-Sakyi, Dobson, Fraser, Campbell; Stockley, Kirk

Coalville Town possible starting lineup:
White; Dean, Wilson, Robertson, Putman; Chitiza, Thanoj, Smith, Shaw; Chambers, Kee

We say: Charlton Athletic 3-0 Coalville Town

Coalville have done remarkably well to get to this stage but we think this tie will be a bridge too far for them.

The Valley has become somewhat of a fortress for Charlton too - they have only lost once at home so far this season.
