Jose Mourinho says that Frank Lampard has a big part to play for Chelsea but will not be risked for every game.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that Frank Lampard does not have to adapt his style of play despite his advancing years.

The 35-year-old recently signed a one-year extension to his contract at Stamford Bridge, which was believed to be at the request of the Portuguese coach.

Lampard played a major role in the success enjoyed during his first spell in charge, and the 50-year-old still sees him as a key figure in his squad.

"I believe he is the same player, with the difference of, he is 35 and the time to recover from match to match is not the same for a man of 25 to a man of 35," Sky Sports News quotes Mourinho as saying.

"The role doesn't have to change. What has to change is the way we analyse competition. Before we didn't analyse, before it was 'every match: he plays'.

"He can't play 60 matches like he did before, but the quality of the player and what he represents for the way I like to play football is exactly the same."

Lampard started 21 Premier League games last season.
