Chelsea, Everton 'battle for William Carvalho'

A report claims that Chelsea and Everton will go head to head for the signature of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho this summer.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is reportedly a summer transfer target for both Chelsea and Everton.

Chelsea have already brought N'Golo Kante to Stamford Bridge this summer, but according to The Mirror, head coach Antonio Conte wants another defensive midfielder and Carvalho is his main target.

The same report claims that Everton are also in the running for the 24-year-old, who was a key part of the Portugal team that won Euro 2016.

Carvalho, who has also been linked with Southampton and Leicester City as replacements for Victor Wanyama and Kante respectively, scored three times in 35 appearances for Sporting during the 2015-16 campaign.

It is understood that the defensive midfielder is valued in the region of £20m.
