James Beattie: 'We gave Chesterfield problems'

Accrington Stanley boss James Beattie says that he cannot be too hard on his players following today's 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield.

Accrington Stanley manager James Beattie has said that he is pleased with his team's performance against Chesterfield despite losing 1-0 at the Proact Stadium.

A mistake from Dean Winnard allowed Tendayi Darikwa to eventually finish from 15 yards to see the Spireites rise to the top of League Two with five games played.

"I am delighted with the performance and the game plan worked again, but unfortunately you can't do any amount of training for errors like the one that happened," PA quotes Beattie as saying. "Dean's devastated, but apart from that, he played a magnificent game as I've told him.

"We have come to Chesterfield, who are top of the table, and we are expected to get beat, but we have played some really good football and made them change their formation because we were causing them problems.

"When we came off, [Chesterfield manager] Paul Cook said no team this season has caused them the problems that we did. We are disappointed in the result, but the performance was a good one and we can't be too disheartened."

Accrington make the trip to Hartlepool United next Saturday.
