Report: Chesterfield manager Paul Cook to take charge of Portsmouth

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook agrees a deal to take the reins at League Two outfit Portsmouth, according to reports.

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook has agreed a deal to take charge of Portsmouth, according to reports.

The 48-year-old was in the dugout as the Spireites were knocked out of the League One playoffs following a 3-0 defeat at Preston North End on Sunday.

BBC Sport claims that the League Two side are on the verge of bringing Cook to Fratton Park despite being originally refused permission to speak to him in April following the departure of Andy Awford.

Cook, in charge of Chesterfield since October 2012, guided them to last season's League Two title and secured a League One playoff spot this year with a sixth-placed finish.
