Peterborough United have completed the permanent signing of Dwight Gayle from League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge.
The 22-year-old joined Posh on a loan deal in November and has gone on to score five goals in four outings for the Championship side.
Those statistics have convinced manager Darren Ferguson to offer him a contract, which will come into force in January.
"Dwight wasn't with us for long but he showed a lot of ability and another opportunity has come along for him," Dagenham manager John Still told the club's official website. "The club had accepted an offer that would see the player come back in January but that offer has been improved and the club felt that financially it was the right thing to do.
"I believe Dwight has a terrific future and as sad as I am to see him go, I wish him the best of luck."
The deal will mean that the Daggers will break their record transfer fee received and will now receive a guaranteed minimum of £470,000, with the possibility that figure may rise to £700,000.
