Johnny Russell rescues point for Derby County

Derby County strike late to earn a 1-1 draw in their Championship match with Middlesbrough at Pride Park.

Johnny Russell scored a late equaliser as Derby County salvaged a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough in their Championship meeting at Pride Park this evening.

Jeff Hendrick had the first attempt on goal for the Rams, but his effort was saved by Dimitrios Konstantopoulos.

The visitors made the breakthrough in the 16th minute when George Friend's scuffed attempt rolled kindly through to Kike, who reacted quickly to fire into the corner past Scott Carson.

The Spaniard had another chance to score moments later, but after connecting with Stewart Downing's cross, he was unable to keep his header on target.

It was the Rams who came close to levelling soon after when Chris Martin nodded Stephen Warnock's delivery over the bar.

Albert Adomah threatened a second goal for Boro early in the second half, but his low effort flashed wide of the post.

The visitors seemed as if they would hold on for the win, but with two minutes left to play Russell arrived at the back post to fire home and earn his side a share of the spoils.
