Half-Time Report: Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor give Aston Villa lead

Goals from Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor cancel out a Victor Anichebe strike to give Aston Villa a 2-1 lead over Everton at half time.

Aston Villa have taken a 2-1 lead into half time of their Premier League match against Everton at Goodison Park this afternoon.

The visitors made the perfect start to the match by taking the lead after just three minutes when Christian Benteke powered past Johnny Heitinga before slotting the ball home.

Everton were back level after 20 minutes as Victor Anichebe showed good strength to hold off Ron Vlaar before smashing his effort past Brad Guzan on the turn.

They were only level for a couple of minutes, however, as Gabriel Agbonlahor restored Aston Villa's lead almost immediately. The winger rose highest in the box to nod to the ball past Tim Howard.

Neither side could find another goal in the remaining 20 minutes as Villa took their lead into the break.
