Everton's Leighton Baines says that Victor Anichebe is more than capable of filling in for injured striker Nikica Jelavic.

Everton's Leighton Baines has sung the praises of teammate Victor Anichebe following the forward's recent good form.

The Nigerian international has scored twice in three appearances this season, and Baines believes that he is more than capable of deputising for the injured Nikica Jelavic.

"Victor's starting to grow into the role he needs to be in at the club," the England full-back told Sky Sports News.

"We want to get behind him... We don't know what the situation is with Jela, but Victor is definitely more than capable of coming in.

"There's not a centre-half in the world who isn't going to find him a handful when he's playing like that [against Newcastle]."

Anichebe scored Everton's second goal in this week's 2-2 draw with Newcastle United, the same game in which Jelavic piked up his knee injury.
