Everton defender Sylvain Distin has expressed his delight for Nikica Jelavic after the striker's first goal for the club was enough to secure a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Croatian opened his account for the Toffees in the first half at Goodison Park after an injury-plagued couple of months following his January move from Rangers.

"That is really good for him. He has been waiting for a long time," Distin told ESPN.

"When he came, he had an injury and then it was the international break, so he didn't have the opportunity to show everyone his quality. He has done it today."

Everton, who have moved up to ninth in the table with the win, make the short trip to local rivals Liverpool in the league on Tuesday.
