Everton's Marouane Fellaini is given a three-match ban for headbutting Ryan Shawcross

Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been banned for three games by the Football Association after headbutting Ryan Shawcross in the 1-1 draw with Stoke City on Saturday.

The FA charged the Belgian international this evening, with Everton and Fellaini immediately accepting the charge.

His manager David Moyes said after the game that it was unacceptable and that Fellaini was deserving of any punishment which came his way.

The player himself also released a statement apologising for his actions on Saturday evening.

The 25-year-old will now miss the upcoming away trip to West Ham United, as well as home games against Wigan Athletic and Chelsea.

There had been speculation that Fellaini would receive a longer ban after being involved in two other incidents with Shawcross, but referee Mark Halsey confirmed in his report that he saw them and decided no action was needed.
