Galatasaray's assistant manager Hasan Sas has confirmed that the club are in talks to sign Didier Drogba.
Reports emerged earlier today that the Ivory Coast striker had agreed to join the Turkish champions after Shanghai Shenua agreed to let the former Chelsea forward return to European football.
While talks of an agreement may have been premature assistant coach Sas has admitted that a deal is close to being completed.
He told reporters: "Drogba is a world-class player. I know that our board is in negotiations.
"There should be some clarifications in one or two days, but what we know is that there the news is positive."
Galatasaray have already completed a deal for Wesley Sneijder this month but face a race against time to sign Drogba, who is currently on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 34-year-old would be eligible to play for Galatasaray in the knockout stages of the Champions League next month should he complete a move to Istanbul.
