How Germany could line up against Iceland

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Germany could line up for Wednesday's World Cup Qualifying - Europe clash with Iceland.

In what will be his third game as Germany manager, Hansi Flick could continue to look closer at his squad in the upcoming World Cup Qualifying clash with Iceland.

Defender Thilo Kehrer, midfielder Joshua Kimmich, winger Leroy Sane and forward Timo Werner are the only four players to have played in both games under the former Bayern Munich manager, with Werner scoring in both and Sane finding the net in a 2-0 away victory over Liechtenstein.

For the clash with Armenia last time out, Flick brought in four more players that he managed at Bayern Munich last season, as Manuel Neuer, Niklas Sule, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry all returned to the side, and the quartet should play key roles throughout Flick's reign.

Sule was partnered by centre-back Antonio Rudiger, who should lead the defence in the long term after winning the Champions League with Chelsea last season.

Bayern Munich duo Kimmich and Goretzka should again feature at the base of midfield, while the new manager could hand another opportunity to exciting attacker Jamal Musiala, who broke into the Bavarians' side last season, potentially forming an all-Bayern attacking trio with Gnabry and Sane behind a lone striker.

That is far from guaranteed though, with the abundance of options allowing for Flick to rest Sane after two starts in quick succession, with Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus also battling for a starting spot alongside the likes of Kai Havertz and Bayer Leverkusen prospect Florian Wirtz.

Despite showing mixed form in front of goal for Chelsea last season, Timo Werner should continue to lead the line, having taken his tally to 18 goals in 44 international appearances with consecutive strikes coming into Wednesday's game.

Germany possible starting lineup: Neuer; Hofmann, Sule, Rudiger, Kehrer; Goretzka, Kimmich; Gnabry, Reus, Musiala; Werner
