Half-Time Report: Atdhe Nuhiu heads Sheffield Wednesday ahead

Sheffield Wednesday lead Ipswich Town at the interval thanks to an early Atdhe Nuhiu header at Hillsborough.

An early Atdhe Nuhiu goal has given Sheffield Wednesday the lead at home to fellow Championship promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town.

The Owls were much the brighter in the opening minutes and but for Dean Gerken's save from Chris Maguire's shot, they may have taken a fourth-minute lead.

However, Stuart Gray's men weren't made to wait long for their breakthrough as Jacques Maghoma produced a tantalising cross, which Nuhiu steered beyond Gerken at the near post.

Wednesday, looking to make amends for their defeat at Cardiff City at the weekend, didn't rest on their early lead and could have made it two on 13 minutes when another threatening delivery from Maghoma provided Maguire with the chance to score, but he dragged his effort wide.

Ipswich tried to muster a response and were almost rewarded after Cole Skuse supplied David McGoldrick and the Blues frontman brought a good save out of Keiron Westwood.

With the interval approaching, the Tractor Boys were almost level as first Luke Hyam and then Daryl Murphy had chances to breach the home side's defence, but couldn't find the breakthrough.
