Report: Gary McAllister in frame for Leeds United job

Former Leeds United player and manager Gary McAlliser will reportedly be interviewed for Elland Road's head coach vacancy by owner Massimo Cellino on Saturday.

Former Leeds United midfielder Gary McAllister is believed to be in the running for the club's managerial vacancy, six years after being fired from the same position.

The Whites are looking for a new boss after owner Massimo Cellino parted company with Brian McDermott in May following a tumultuous 13 months in charge.

BBC Radio Leeds reports that the Italian will meet with McAllister, who was sacked after 11 months at the Elland Road helm in December 2008, on Saturday as one of three British candidates for the role.

It was thought that Cellino may look to bring in a foreign head coach as he is determined for them to work under a director of football, with Gianluca Festa and Massimiliano Allegri among the favourites.

However, it appears that McAllister, who has also had spells as an assistant at both Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, is a contender to return to the team that were losing League One playoff finalists under his tenure.

McAlliser, 49, made 297 appearances for Leeds as a player and captained them to the First Division title in 1990.
