Preview: Lincoln City vs. Oxford United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Lincoln City and Oxford United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After picking up two points from their last three games, Oxford United will want to return to winning ways when they travel to the LNER Stadium for Tuesday's League One clash with Lincoln City.

Meanwhile, the Imps will be hoping to continue their promising spell of form after winning two and drawing one of their last three games.

Lincoln experienced a change in manager earlier this month after Tom Shaw was placed in caretaker charge following the dismissal of Mark Kennedy.

Shaw began his tenure as interim boss with a 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town, before his side followed that result with a 3-1 home victory against Charlton Athletic.

The Imps were seemingly on course to claim a third successive victory after leading for the majority of Saturday's away meeting with Exeter City following Alistair Smith's 20th-minute effort.

However, the Grecians carved out an equaliser in the 81st minute to ensure that the spoils were shared, leaving Lincoln in eighth position and four points adrift of sixth-placed Stevenage with two games in hand.

While the Imps face a tough test on Tuesday, their recent head-to-head record will give them reason to be confident, having won each of their last three meetings with Oxford.

The visitors, meanwhile, currently reside in the second automatic promotion spot after racking up 29 points from their 14 matches.

Impressively, the U's began the campaign with eight wins in their opening 10 league matches, but their momentum has shown signs of slowing in recent games.

After being held to a 1-1 draw with Blackpool, Liam Manning's side suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat in their away clash with Wigan Athletic last Tuesday, before they turned their attention to Saturday's meeting with Wycombe.

Despite taking the lead against the Chairboys, Oxford looked to be heading towards another defeat after conceding from two penalties, but Cameron Brannagan dispatched his own spot kick in stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Fresh from extending their unbeaten home run to five matches, Oxford will now travel to the LNER Stadium, where they will attempt to claim an away win over Lincoln for the first time since September 2019.

Team News

The hosts have seen their attacking options affected by injuries to Ben House, Tyler Walker and Reeco Hackett.

Despite missing out on all three points on Saturday, Shaw could be tempted to name an unchanged lineup for Tuesday's contest.

Hakeeb Adelakun, who is set to lead the line for Lincoln, will be looking to score in back-to-back home games after netting a brace against Charlton in Lincoln's most recent outing at the LNER Stadium.

As for Oxford, Marcus Browne, Kyle Edwards and James Henry are all set to miss out, as they continue to recover from their respective injury issues.

Brannagan, who returned from illness at the weekend, may be brought into the starting lineup after he came off the bench to score a late equaliser against Wycombe.

Tyler Goodrham dropped out of the side at the weekend, but the 20-year-old could be recalled for the midweek trip to Lincoln.

Lincoln City possible starting lineup:
Jensen; Mitchell, Jackson, O'Connor; Burroughs, Hamilton, Erhahon, Roughan; Sorensen, Smith, Adelakun

Oxford United possible starting lineup:
Beadle; Long, Moore, Brown, Leigh; Brannagan, McGuane; Rodrigues, Bodin, Goodrham; Harris

We say: Lincoln City 1-1 Oxford United

Lincoln have lost just one of their six home league games this season, but we think they will do enough to hold their high-flying opponents to a score draw in Tuesday's contest.
